# Episode 3. The Man Whose Name Was Erased

The following afternoon, Jun-young headed back to that run-down used car dealership with the address written on the contract.

But the moment he arrived at the alley, something seemed off. The dealership’s sign was gone.

To be precise—there wasn’t even a trace that a sign had ever been there. As if nothing had ever been there in the first place, only an old warehouse with its shutters down stood there, all alone.

“This is… the right place.”

Jun-young checked the address on the contract against the alley’s house number over and over. There was no mistake. Three days ago, he had definitely sat across from the old man right here and stamped the contract.

He asked the owner of the dry cleaner’s next door.

“Excuse me, wasn’t there a used car dealership here? Run by an elderly man?”

The dry cleaner’s owner tilted his head in confusion. “Here? This has just been a warehouse for years. A used car dealership? What are you talking about?”

“No, just a few days ago, I’m sure—”

“Young man, I’ve been running this business for over twenty years, and I’ve never seen anything like that.”

Jun-young felt a chill run down his spine. He took out the contract again and unfolded it. The dealership’s name, business registration number, and phone number—everything was printed there. He tried calling the number. It was disconnected.

**Previous Owner:...

Jun-young felt a chill run down his spine. He took out the contract again and opened it. The real estate agency’s name, business registration number, and phone number—everything was printed there. He tried calling the number. It was disconnected.

**Previous Owner: Choi Deok-su.**

Only the name remained clearly visible, as if that person alone could never be erased.

Jun-young stood there for a long time, then suddenly decided to search for the name Choi Deok-su again. This time, he tried a slightly different approach—adding the word “missing” after the name.

That brought up an old post on a local online forum. It had been written three years ago. The title was **“Please help find my father.”**

The author was someone with the surname Choi. The post described how the author’s father had gone missing along with the old sedan he’d been driving. There were only a few comments, and most were dismissive reactions like, “Isn’t it just a car theft?” or “There are a lot of scams like that these days.”

Jun-young felt his hands trembling. He compared a photo of the car he was currently driving with the photo attached to the post.

It was the same car. Even the license plate was identical.

That evening, Jun-young called Byeong-gu to tell him what had happened. At first, Byeong-gu couldn’t stop smiling, but after checking the post himself, his expression turned serious.

“Dude… this is like a real-life mystery, isn’t it?”

“It’s not a mystery—it’s the reality I’m living right now.”

“So, do you think that old man got trapped somewhere while teleporting in this car? Or maybe…”

Byeong-gu couldn’t finish his sentence. Both of them were thinking the same thing. *Maybe that old man never made it back.*

Late that night, Jun-young sat alone in the car, gripping the steering wheel. This time, he deliberately closed his eyes and muttered as if in prayer.

“Mr. Choi Deok-su… where are you? What on earth is going on?”

Nothing happened. The car simply stood there in silence, as if refusing to respond to Jun-young’s question.

Just as a disappointed Jun-young opened the door to get out, he sensed a presence from the passenger seat.

“…So-eun?”

Before he knew it, the passenger-side door was open, and So-eun was sitting there as if nothing were out of the ordinary—as if she’d been there all along.

“How did you get here…”

“I don’t know either. I just came to and found myself here,” So-eun said calmly. “This car keeps bringing me to you, Jun-young.”

Jun-young was momentarily speechless. So-eun’s expression conveyed familiarity more strongly than surprise.

“So-eun… you know something about this car, don’t you?”

So-eun remained silent for a while, then spoke softly as she gazed out at the darkness beyond the window.

“Mr. Choi Deok-su. He’s my father.”

Jun-young felt his breath catch in his throat.

“I’m the one who posted on the forum asking for help finding my father. For three years, I couldn’t find either my father or this car—” So-eun’s voice trembled. “Then a few days ago, I suddenly heard that this car had reappeared. But they said the driver was someone else.”

“So… that was me.”

So-eun nodded. Then, looking Jun-young straight in the eye, she said,

“Jun-young. Why this car picked you up of all people...

"Jun-young. Can you help me figure out why this car picked you up of all people, and where my father disappeared to?"

The light from the streetlamp quietly filtered between them. For the first time in a long while, Jun-young was facing someone’s request head-on, without running away.

(To be continued in the next episode.....)
